The Plaza Tower is part of the second phase of the Master Plan implementation completed by RBB. The 250,000 SF, $100 million new facility consists of a lower level In-Patient Surgery Department adjacent to the newly relocated Imaging Department and existing Emergency Department while the existing Surgery remains in operation, two floors of Critical Care beds (4-12 bed ICU Suites) and two floors of additional Medical/Surgical beds (32 beds/floor). The project subsequently includes the demolition of the existing Surgery and the creation of an extensive landscaped park. Phase III completes the master plan with the Plaza Tower II at the site of the former Surgery, and includes lower level expansion space and four floors of Medical/Surgical beds (32 beds/floor). The Plaza Tower will be connected to the RBB designed Foundation Tower that was completed as part of Phase I of the Master Plan implementation.
The Plaza Tower and Foundation Tower buildings are designed with horizontally banded pre-cast concrete and glass in a modern vocabulary that is consistent with the previously designed Perry Pavilion completed in 1994, and providing an overall campus vocabulary and a unifying identity for the hospital as the facility moves forward into the new millennium.
